The sharp contrast between the floral design on one half and the solid green portion on the other half is unusual for Islamic ceramics, which commonly incorporate carefully balanced designs over an entire surface. This example may have been inspired by Chinese ceramic vessels that were first introduced to the Islamic world over a thousand years ago.
